The Department of French strives to present and study the languages, cultures, literatures, and modern media of France and the Francophone world in all their past and present diversity.

Program Description

The Department of French offers areas of interest that go beyond the normal confines of a language and literature program.  These include a strong emphasis on Francophone literatures and cultures (three core faculty members and one affiliated member), the theory and practice of translation, Frenc and Francophone cultural studies, and French and Francophone film and media.

The deadline for applications for the M.A. and the Ph.D. programs is January 15.  There is no deadline for the M.A.T. program, but applicants should notify the graduate director at the time of their application.
