Support to Apply for Grants and Fellowships

The School of Graduate Studies encourages all of its students to apply for externally funded fellowships and research grants to support their graduate studies. 

Students can book individual advising appointments through our WCOnline Booking Platform which is accessible through the GradFund Widget on my.rutgers.edu

The GradFund Self-Paced Guide to Grants and Fellowships on canvas provides a step-by-step guide on how to identify fellowships and grants, how to develop a plan to integrate applying for fellowships and grants into your graduate career and how to begin to develop and draft application essays. All SGS students and the faculty and staff who work with them are encouraged to enroll in the course through this link:   https://rutgers.instructure.com/enroll/6T9G48

GradFund FAQ

Who can use GradFund services?

All graduate students enrolled in the School of Graduate Studies at Rutgers are eligible to use GradFund’s fellowship advising services.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Use the GradFund widget in your MyRutgers dashboard to access our scheduling platform via WCOnline. From there, you can book one-on-one advising sessions.

Who will I meet with during an advising session?

You’ll meet with one of our GradFund Fellowship Advisors, who are PhD candidates trained to assist students across disciplines including STEM, social sciences, and humanities.

What types of funding can GradFund help me apply for?

GradFund specializes in external merit-based fellowships and grants that support graduate study, research, and writing. These include awards from government agencies, foundations, and professional associations.

What resources are available outside of appointments?

When should I start applying for funding?

It’s never too early! We recommend beginning to explore funding opportunities in your first year and continuing throughout your graduate career.

Can GradFund help me write my proposal?

Yes! We provide guidance on developing your funding plancrafting competitive proposals, and reviewing drafts. We’ll help you strengthen your writing and strategy.
