About the TA Project

In 1988, Rutgers University-New Brunswick made a significant commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning in post-secondary higher education by creating the Teaching Assistant Project (TAP). Devoted solely to enhancing the quality of instruction provided by teaching assistants, it was an innovative endeavor. Nearly thirty years later, TAP is a thriving multi-faceted program.

Designed to strengthen the quality of undergraduate and graduate instruction through the preparation of graduate student teaching assistants on matters pertaining to classroom management, pedagogical best practices, and professionalism in academe. The fundamental components upon which it is built include annual orientations, certificate programs, seminar courses, and discipline-specific training.

Additionally, TAP works with the Rutgers Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (RASTL). This project provides advanced graduate students with the opportunity to meet monthly with faculty and administrators to review issues related to undergraduate instruction and contemporary higher education.
