Welcome New TA! Congratulations on your appointment as a new Teaching Assistant (TA) at Rutgers University.
The TA Project sponsors online TA orientation programs which you can view at your convenience. The orientation will discuss the issues that you can expect to encounter at Rutgers as a TA, strategies for dealing with common challenges, and tips for making your time at the front of the classroom as effective and rewarding as possible. Our goal is to prepare you to walk into class that first day with confidence.
Newly appointed TAs are required to view New TA Orientation. Additionally, TAs who are non-U.S. citizens are also required to view the International TA Orientation.
New TAs will be emailed instructions for accessing the Canvas sites by The TA Project in August. If you are a new TA, and have not yet received information regarding orientation, click here to register now.
New international TAs should also register for the accompanying International TA orientation, check here to register.
If you are a faculty or staff member and wish to view the TA Orientations, please submit your NetID, name, and title to tapweb@grad.rutgers.edu, and we will provide you with access to the orientation page.
New TA Orientation
This orientation consists of a series of recorded short presentations and discussions on general and discipline-specific teaching issues. TAs will receive advice and guidance from experienced TAs, explore a variety of pedagogical methods, and learn about Rutgers undergraduate student culture.
Who should watch?
All new TAs at Rutgers. This includes first-year students who will be TAing for the first time as well as returning students who have not yet been a TA but will be TAing for the first time this upcoming year.
When and where is it?

International TA Orientation
Many new TAs are also new to the United States. To help ease your adjustment into teaching in the U.S., the TA Project provides an International TA Orientation. This orientation introduces participants to the cultural issues involved in teaching at an American university. Discussions are presented by experienced international TAs.
