Dean Mark Robson Delivers Lecture on Urban Health in Bangkok, Continuing Decades-Long Collaboration with Thailand

On June 5, 2025, Dr. Mark Gregory Robson, Rutgers Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Education, delivered a special lecture at the Department of Research and Medical Innovation, Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Titled “Urban Health Problems and Opportunities for Urbanization Research,” the talk explored the challenges and research frontiers in addressing public health issues in rapidly urbanizing settings. The event was hosted by Assistant Professor Dr. Jadsada Kunno, a former student of Dr. Robson’s, and brought together medical faculty, researchers, and students for a timely conversation on improving health outcomes in growing cities.

This visit marked another chapter in Dr. Robson’s more than 30-year partnership with Thai institutions. Since the 1990s, he has worked closely with faculty and researchers at Chulalongkorn University, Prince of Songkla University, Mahidol University, and others on a range of environmental health and public health projects, supported by major international funders such as the NIH, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Fulbright Program.

Dr. Robson was recently honored with the 2024 Friend of Thai Science Award, presented at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, DC. The award recognizes his decades-long commitment to training the next generation of Thai scientists and advancing collaborative research in health, science, and environmental policy.

Through his mentorship, teaching, and enduring collaborations, Dr. Robson continues to shape global health leadership across the Kingdom of Thailand and beyond.
