RISE (Research Intensive Summer Experience) at Rutgers seeks to pave the pathway to graduate study and research careers. We particularly encourage participation by underrepresented minority, disadvantaged, and first-generation college students as well as students from Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions. RISE and its Partner Programs are hosting 81 Scholars this summer, selected from over 1,500 applicants. This summer marks our 21st anniversary!
Historically a 10-week residential program, RISE and its partner programs pivoted during the pandemic to the virtual space. This summer, we are running an 8-week hybrid program. Our 81 Scholars, representing 57 sending schools from across the U.S. and its territories, are participating in research and scholarship under the guidance of carefully-matched Rutgers faculty mentors. A rigorous suite of professional development activities complements the research, including scholarly writing and speaking, preparation for graduate school, guest speakers, and GRE preparation. . Lunch and Learn Seminars spotlight a broad scope of research at Rutgers; topics range from cutting-edge COVID-19 research, to the chemistry of art and music, to the changing demographics of 21st century America, and to the impact of smartphone nutrition apps on behavior and health.

And don’t miss our Innovation & Entrepreneurship presentation rooms where student groups discuss how their research can yield viable products that fill societal needs. We are also extremely grateful for the financial support that some faculty mentors were able to provide through research grants or supplements. In addition, we thank the graduate students and postdocs near-peer mentors for their invaluable guidance.
The Symposium is made possible through the commitment and tireless effort of University Libraries in creating and hosting the synchronous and asynchronous platforms.
