If you are searching for how to find purpose in your work and future, this workshop is for you. Lara Callander, PhD, MAPP, PCC who has a PhD in Chemistry and worked in pharma for many years is now a professional coach who will lead this workshop. Participants will take the Values in Action (VIA) character strength survey before the event to generate a report which we will reflect upon at the workshop. The goals of the event are to:

1. Review strengths and the value in recognizing them.

2. Prompt the audience to reflect on their individual purpose. 

3. Each participant will leave the workshop with an individual mission statement “To use my skills of ______, _______ and _______to [something you want to do in the world] _________.”

Rutgers alum and professional coach Kenyatta Lucas, PhD will deliver this presentation with the goal of empowering Ph.D. students and postdocs as they matriculate from academia to the corporate world. The session will cover several key areas:

1. Understanding Corporate Culture: Defining its significance and how graduates can assess the environment they will enter.

2. Understanding yourself: Emphasizing the importance of genuine self-representation in a professional setting. Defining your values and strengths. 

3. Building a Personal Brand: Techniques to combine self-representation with the mission and values of corporate culture. Strategies for effectively showcasing skills and experiences.

4. Creating Lasting Impressions in Strategic Relationships: Insights on networking, follow-up strategies, and the importance of continuous feedback.

Many of our recent iJOBS alumni have gone into careers in science writing at medical communications agencies or at pharma companies where they use their skills at translating complex concepts into clear and concise presentations for diverse audiences including other scientists, physicians, and patients. Come hear from a panel of medical communications professionals all of whom have a PhD to learn how you can jump start your career in this field.

For people who want to stay involved in research but not become faculty in academia, government agencies represent another very attractive alternative to the biopharma industry.  We will hear from amazing PhD level scientists who have all had very successful careers doing research at either the NIH, Food and Drug Administration, Center for Disease Control or NJ Department of Health. Get their advice on how to find and make the transition from graduate school or postdoc into these government roles that have a direct impact on human health.
