Individual Development Plans

In accordance with NIH guidelines, all biomedical graduate students are required to complete Individual Development Plans (IDPs). IDPs provide a structure to systematically identify training needs and competencies, establish tangible research goals, and take stock of annual progress.

Communicating Science Course

This course helps students develop an advanced ability to communicate their research clearly to emphasize its value to diverse audiences. It is taught by a multidisciplinary faculty with expertise in science, theater arts, communication, and education.

Biomedical Professional Development Workshops

The School of Graduate Studies offers our biomedical graduate students opportunities for professional development and workshops including manuscript and grant preparation, learning to mentor undergrads, study skills, and opportunities to mentor diversity high school students.

Travel Awards

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) biomedical sciences and health programs currently offers travel awards for expenses for graduate students traveling to present papers at scientific meetings, research-related activities, and career training-related activities.

Computational Courses and Certificate

Students in the biomedical science programs in SGS have the opportunity to take computational classes regardless of their specific discipline. This aligns with the goal of the NIH that each graduate program provides training opportunities in addition to their technical courses that equip trainees with quantitative/computational approaches.
