Event Description
This workshop will focus on the essentials of entrepreneurship and intellectual property (IP) for graduate students interested in turning research innovations into viable commercial ventures. Hosted in partnership with the Technology Transfer Office, the session will cover critical aspects of IP protection,patenting, and licensing, while also exploring pathways to entrepreneurship and creation of start-ups. Students will learn about the opportunities and challenges of bringing their research to market, the steps involved in developing a startup, and the support available through Rutgers. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to transform their research ideas into entrepreneurial endeavors and how to strategically manage intellectual property in both academic and industry settings.

Event Description
Dr. Leslie Vosshall will deliver the 2025 Morris-Inouye Lecture at 4 PM on Thursday April 3rd in the Main Lecture Hall of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway. Her lecture is titled “Mosquitoes: Flexible and Dangerous Predators of Humans”. A reception will follow.
Dr. Vosshall studies how mosquitos choose humans for their meals, and which humans they like best. Her lab has identified neurobiological bases of host odor and CO2 perception, as well as egg-laying and the action of insect repellents. Her lectures are accessible and appeal to broad audiences.
Dr. Vosshall is the Robin Chemers Neustein Professor of Neurogenetics and Behavior at The Rockefeller University, as well as Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is also a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the 2024 Dickson Prize in Medicine.

Online Active Learning 101
Event Description
Teaching in the online environment means working with a new toolbox in order to help students achieve your learning goals. This workshop, led by Rutgers' Director of Instructional Design, Dr. Dena Novak, will focus on key considerations to keep in mind when planning active learning experiences online. Attendees will explore practical strategies to make optimal use of synchronous and asynchronous time, various tools available for each approach, and best practices for using these tools effectively to support student learning.
This workshop is part of the Teaching with Technology certificate series.
