Physiology & Integrative Biology

Program Description

By conducting independent research under the mentorship of a faculty advisor, the Graduate Program in Physiology & Integrative Biology prepares students for research-oriented careers in the biomedical sciences. Students who apply to this program are admitted via Molecular Biosciences, a first-year umbrella program that provides a core curriculum, as well as the opportunity to sample laboratories through rotations. Students tailor their training through selection of additional courses from a variety of disciplines.

Pharmacological Science

Program Description

Certificate programs are designed for students who wish to take courses to achieve a concentration in a particular subject area without undertaking the full commitment of a master's degree. Potential students might want to enter or further a career in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, teaching, journalism, or administration.

Nutritional Sciences

Program Description

We have three major emphasis areas: nutritional biochemistry and physiology, community nutrition, and dietetics. Scientists working in nutritional biochemistry and physiology conduct their research using the tools of molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and physiology to understand how organisms utilize nutrients to maintain optimal health. Applied nutritionists use sociological, psychological, anthropological methods, clinical, and education theory to investigate factors that influence the nutritional status of individuals and communities.

Microbial Biology

Program Description

The Microbial Biology program is for students interested in understanding and exploiting microbes and their activities.  Students receive an excellent education on the genetic, metabolic, physiologic, and evolutionary diversity of microorganisms and their role in sustaining our biosphere and influencing our health and well-being.  Our program prepares students for research, education, and policy positions in academia, industry, and government.
