Prezi is a cloud-based presentation application (for both Mac and PC) that lets you organize and share ideas and information in a very dynamic way. You can lead your students (and audience) on a visual journey, collaborate in real time across time zones, and run your presentation from the cloud, desktop, iPad, or iPhone. In Intro to Prezi NEXT, you learn how to set up a free account, navigate the canvas, create topics and subtopics, utilize templates, apply text, images and video, and use the Tool/Prezi Editor.
Basic RefWorks 3.0
Event Description
RefWorks (free to members of the Rutgers community with a NetID) is a web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to create and administer their own personal bibliographic database. This hands-on workshop introduces RefWorks, and demonstrates how personal bibliographies can be created and managed. Two additional RefWorks tools, Write-N-Cite and RefGrab-It will also be demonstrated. Additional help will be available for persons logging into RefWorks for the first time.

This active learning workshop for PhD students, Postdoctoral Fellows and faculty will use techniques and case study discussions in breakout sessions to teach tools and skills to better mentor undergraduate students in a research setting. Attendees will also reflect upon approaches they would use to mentor trainees and employees when they are running a lab or research group in the future. An opportunity to earn a Microbadge in Mentoring Undergrads will be available for those who wish to follow up with additional activities.

Note: This is a 2 day in person workshop. You only need to register once, however attendance at both days is required from 9am-5pm.
Data Carpentry workshops are for any researcher who has data they want to analyze, and no prior computational experience is required. This hands-on workshop teaches basic concepts, skills and tools for working more effectively with data. The focuses of this workshop will be working with genomics data, and data management & analysis for genomics research. They will cover metadata organization in spreadsheets, data organization, connecting to and using cloud computing, the command line for sequence quality control and bioinformatics workflows.

New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) was founded in 2014 and combines the vast resources of NJIT, strong industry and government relationships, and proven methods to drive innovation and deliver transformative products and services. The Entrepreneurship team oversees incubator and accelerator programs at VentureLink. They are a tech venture hub for those who want to bring technology to market. Come to meet the scientist and companies that reside in the incubator that is now led by Rutgers alum Michael Johnson, PhD who founded Visikol while he was still in graduate school and has become wildly successful. We will also get to tour the labs and learn what skill sets they are looking for in new hires for fresh PhD graduates and postdocs.

iJOBS Site Visit: NJ Bioscience Center

Come to visit the New Jersey Bioscience Center, a 300,000 SF, 50 acre research park that includes the Incubator at North Brunswick, with 27 private wet labs and the multi-tenant Step-Out Labs at North Brunswick for growing biotech companies. Larger life sciences space ranging from 5000 – 32,000 SF are also on site. We will hear from resident companies about their research and what kinds of fresh PhDs and postdocs they are looking to hire. We will also get to tour the labs and network with the scientists who work at these small to mid-size companies. It is a great place to get your foot in the door of industry.
