The goals of this workshop are to introduce models of student motivation for learning and discuss ways to build motivation in the classroom. Taking evidence from research in the field of self-regulation, we will consider how instructors can both help and harm student motivation.

Event Description

The Teaching Portfolio is a documented statement of an instructor's teaching responsibilities, philosophy, goals, and teaching accomplishments. As part of the reappointment and promotion process, departments must review candidate teaching portfolios in conjunction with other sources of evidence. Join us for a workshop to write or refine your teaching philosophy, consider the evidence you want to share to demonstrate your teaching effectiveness, and be sure your portfolio represents your accomplishments in teaching.

Event Description

This workshop explores the purposes of a diversity statement for academic employment, reviews pedagogical practices for teaching diverse students, and examines how scholars can talk about diversity in their teaching and research. Armed with this information, participants review and critique sample diversity statements before work-shopping their own ideas and drafts of the diversity statement. Participants should bring any materials related to the diversity statement that they have already prepared.
